" I heard about VEMA hosting a back to school hair event. I brought my son in to the Multicultural Community Center (Starting K). I din't have the money to get his hair braided, and they did it for free. Not even just that, whenI walked in, honestly I was a little intimidated. As a white mom to a biracial child I often find myself feeling like I'm failing as a parent. Not knowing if I'm teaching/raising/doing things right. Anyway, my feelings of intimidation were quickly replaced by nothing but kindness. I was warmly welcomed, educated, and felt like I was a part of something bigger than me. My son was able to spend the day around kids like him. He was so happy to be surrounded by culture. Looking bacon that day, I took so much home with me. I mean the vibes, the people, it was so powerful. I am beyond grateful and thankful for what you guys gave me and my son. Thank you VEMA! -Alexis
